2009 in review

Now that we’re a few days removed from National Hangover Day (New Years Day) it’s time to take another moment for a stream of consciousness look back at 2009 at what was and wasn’t in the last year of this decade.

The first comment is, holy crap it’s the end of a decade. For serious? It’s been 10 years+ since I started MalloMan.com? I know I’ll do a proper anniversary edition later, but it’s been absolutely nuts. And to think that it’s been a decade already is also nuts. Maybe cashews, not peanuts. Something more exotic.

It’s been an interesting journey from Columbia, back to Charleston, then around Charleston some more and on to who knows where. Yes, there maybe more moves in the future. Photographic skills and design know-how has landed more than a few opportunities around the Southeast. It’s an exciting time to be someone trying to rebound after the economy. Adaptation is definitely your friend.

So far this year I’ve cranked out several songs (although none used in the final cut of a couple movies). I began recording new material with a new singer. Released the short documentary “Cocky’s Reading Express.” I’ve gotten into the kitchen at some of Charleston best restaurants, which allowed me to rub elbows with Bobby Flay (Side Note: not nearly as tall as I thought he was. Dude is about my height. Nice guy, though.) That also got my work featured in Charleston Magazine, GQ advertisement, and a host of online applications. We’ve been down to watch USC hand Mark Ingram the Heisman this year and got to experience Alabama football. Also met some great photogs with Sport Ilustrated who showed me a couple of sideline tricks that you don’t usually get to see at a South Carolina game.

And much much more from the professional gigs that have been going on. All-in-all not a bad gig.

But 2010, that’s where things start to heat up. There’s that little wedding thing I’m doing with my fiancee soon. Yeah, that’s enough to make what little hair I have be pulled out. (More on the frustration of wedding planning soon. Learned a lot of lessons and want to pass some tips on – this coming from two people who thought we had a good plan starting out.)

After that, who knows. There’s a lot of open road out there and we’ve got the wanderlust going. Maybe we’ll follow some friends down to Australia. Who knows. =)

Aww! I wanna see your videos! Whatever happened to the comic strip we used to discuss making at Waffle House? Those were some good times. I’m still convinced decaf coffee makes me sleepy. Sigh. I miss you! Wish we all still lived in the same city for some late night sessions with chilled red wine. I also miss having a movie theater nearby where we could just walk in and buy popcorn to go for some Sex and the City viewing. Now everyone just points out how many calories it has. Maybe that’s what did it to me (but most likely it was the beer). Man, can you believe how long ago that was. All of the episodes were new to us. Oh well, I’m rambling as usual. Can’t wait to see you in Feb. And as for losing hair, don’t worry. I awoke to two gray hairs on my birthday. Great way to start out 2010 (on the bright side, I’m pretty sure they were the two gray hairs I pulled out the year before).
